EXECUTIVE STATEMENT OF THE DIRECTOR GENERAL

The objective of the MTEF Budget for the financial year 2018/2019 is to enable the Tropical Pesticides Research Institute to implement the statutory duty of monitoring and measuring performance against targeted outputs as stipulated in the TPRI Act, No. 18 of 1979, the Plant Protection Act, 1997 and TPRI Strategic Plan 2016/2017 to 2020/2021.

MTEF Objective and Targets

The MTEF objectives and targets for the Tropical Pesticides Research Institute (TPRI) (vote 43) for the year 2018/19 were focused towards strengthening supportive and regulatory services aiming at increasing Agricultural productivity and industrialization through enhancement of Pests and Pesticides Management. All targets are in line with the National development goals as outlined in Government policy framework documents (Vision 2025, MKUKUTA II) as well as the ruling party Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) general election manifesto of 2015.

Performance

Significant achievements were realized with respect to delivery of key services for sustaining increased agricultural production and productivity aimed at attaining the MKUKUTA II objectives in line with pests and diseases, coordinating and monitoring food security situation in the country and building the nation’s capacity to store food through different techniques/methods, promoting mechanization technology in pests control and pesticides uses in Agricultural practices.

In 2018/2019 budget TPRI had planned to implement Eight (8) objectives which have  Fifteen (15) targets in recurrent budget in order to strengthen the research and technical support services for Pests and Pesticides Management in increasing Agricultural productivity and hence promoting industrialization in Tanzania.
