National Herbarium of Tanzania section

This Section perform the following activities:-

Catalogue and carryout inventory of the entire Tanzania flora with its pertinent information; Carry out inventory of the medicinal plants and indigenous knowledge associated with plants;

Collect and preserve physical collection of plant material in special Herbarium cabinets; Keep the data and other associated information of the collected plant specimens in Electronic database (Herbarium database); In collaboration with other conservation organization, prepare checklist of plants occurring in their respective areas/ zones; Identify invasive and alien plant species that may occur for the first time in the country and suggest the control measure; Provide advice, instructions and education in relation to aspects of plant taxonomy; Coordinate country mini-herbaria and keeping the physical collections and electronic database; Establish and maintain botanical gardens for the purpose of gaining knowledge and enjoyment; and Contribute and participate in the development of research proposals.
